AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON CYBER CRIME

AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON CYBER CRIME AND SAFETY OF GIRLS/WOMEN: 24TH January, 2022.

The Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee together with Gender Champion Cell in collaboration with District Administration Mon (Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Mon District) took part in observing the Beti Bacho Beti Padhao Week from 21st to 25th January, 2022 and organised an awareness programme on Cyber Crime and Safety of Girls/Women on 24th January, 2022. The programme was chaired by Ms. Chongti, Assistant Professor and welcome note was delivered by Ms. Tenosenuo Associate Professor.

The awareness programme was very successful and attended by 31 students, teaching faculty with three speakers from different Government Departments under Mon District.

1. Ms. Ngepshom Konyak, Women Welfare Officer, DLCW-MSK, presented an Introduction to Cyber Crime & Safety for Girls/Women. while speaking on it Ms. Ngepshom stressed that it is not only the role of the female to protect girl/women byt it is the collective effort of all human beings irrespective of the gender.

2. Ms. Angel Hongnyu Konyak, APP, Legal aspect, the speaker stressed thoroughly on legal proceedings in respect to cyber-crime. Also stressed on Section 66A of  IT Act, which states imprisonment of upto 3 years with fin for sending offensive messages through communication service. Section 354D of IPC Stalking, # years of imprisonment and subsequent for 5 years and liable to fine. Cyber defamation is 3 years and fine of 1 lakh rupees, Photo morphing for 2 years and fine. also stressed that trolling is also punishable with 3 years and mentioned section 66A (Pornography) is liable for 5 years’ imprisonment and fine, child Pornography 67D with 5 years and fine of 1lakh and subsequently 10 years behind bars.

3. Ms. Shekhrulu Doza, ASI (Mon Police Station), spoke on Investigation Process on Cyber Crimes. She highlighted cyber-crime cases registered in Mon Police station thereby encouraging the students to stay vigilant, be aware, and to not hesitate to report any such cases to the police assuring that Police is always ready to extend help to victims of cyber-crime. She also highlighted on types of Cyber crime and provided SMART Model to keep oneself safe from such crimes.

Overall, the awareness programme was insightful and was very successfully conducted.
