Department of Economics Institutional Level Seminar

Department of Economics organized an Institutional Level Seminar on 30th Octotber, 2021 at the Seminar Hall, Wangkhao Government College. The programme was moderated and chaired by Miss Tolivi H Sumi, Asst. Professor, Department of Economics.

Mr. H David Konyak, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Economics presented a paper on the topic “Changing Structure of Nagaland’s Economy: An Analytical Study from 2011 to 2021”. The presenter dwelled on the changing structure of Nagaland’s economy by laying special emphasis on the contribution made by the three sectors of the state’s economy over the past ten years. The growth rate, however, has been found to be inconsistent and erratic with the tertiary sector contributing the highest followed by primary and secondary sector. In contrast to the conventional economic theory of development the state of Nagaland seems to have leapfrogged from primary sector to tertiary sector and the reason has been attributed to the lopsided development in the tertiary sector (especially the govt. administration) and a stagnant secondary and primary sector, Besides pointing out the prominent reasons for the stagnant in the secondary sector the presenter also suggested relevant measure for the overall improvement of the state’s economy.

The presentation was followed by an interaction session whereby comments and queries were being raised and clarified. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Tenosenuo Angami, Convenor, Research and Seminar Committee.
