A One Day Workshop was conducted at the College campus on the theme “Increasing Qualitative Participation in terms of Ethical and Informed Voting” at Wangkhao Government College, Mon by Election Department in collaboration with Clean Election Team of Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjum (KBBB) on 8th Sept. 2017.
Students from 2nd, 4th, 6th semesters attended the workshop. The students were given a lecture whereby they are eligible to become bonafide voters under ‘Universal Adult Franchise Act ’as and when they reach 18 years of age. Further unregistered voters were briefed by the Election Department Officials on how to get oneself enrolled in the electoral roll and exercise his or her franchise accordingly, as it is the constitutional right of every citizen of this country to participate in the election process so as to choose their representatives.
Further, electoral enrolment forms, new voter registration forms, how to cast ones vote inside the voting booth, role of election duty officials, role of voters and working of EVMs etc were displayed to all the participants.
In the second session the participants were informed on clean ethical participation of the voters by the KBBB Mon. since participation in the Indian democratic election process is a right of every citizen of this country above the age of 18 years, the participants were encouraged to ethically participate in election process without taking any favour form the candidates, or any threats or intimidations from any political parties.
To keep the electioneering process clean, the young voters were briefed not to be swayed away by selling their democratic rights or exchanging their votes for any favour. But as students they were informed to be ‘educated and informed voter’ and to choose the best candidate from their own free will, so that as and when God fearing, educated, people friendly and good candidates are elected, then there will be change and overall development in every constituencies and the state too will become a performing developed state in all spheres of lives.
